The African Institute of Development Policy will be participating at the Department of State Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI)’s 10th anniversary virtual summit. Themed “Ten Plus Ten: YALI and the United States Look Back, and Ahead, Together” the all-virtual event will take place from May 24-28, 2021. The Summit provides opportunities for policy discussions, professional development workshops, entertainment, and networking opportunities. It will feature notable speakers and YALI alumni from the business, civic, and public management sectors.
YALI’s 10th anniversary coincides with ongoing activities to mark AFIDEP’s 10 years of promoting evidence use for development in Africa.
AFIDEP’s milestones include supporting the African Union Commission to designate “harnessing the demographic dividend through investments in youth” as the top development theme of the African Union Summit in 2017, which was extended as the theme of the decade for the region. The Institute has provided technical assistance to 15 African governments to develop their demographic dividend roadmaps. In nine of these, it has successfully supported them to integrate its principles into their medium- and long-term development strategies.
Our work advancing the demographic dividend agenda has stimulated unprecedented interest to address population and development issues across Africa.
