Hleziwe Hara
Research and Policy Associate

Hleziwe supports AFIDEP’s project on the Regional Analysis of Youth Demographics through evidence synthesis in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. She is also actively involved in the Youth Advocacy Advisory Group that seeks to advance the demographic dividend agenda in Kenya. She has previously been instrumental on the Strengthening Use of Research Evidence for Youth and Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health (enSURE) programme. The programme aims to increase access to and use of effective policies and interventions for improving young people’s sexual reproductive health outcomes.

Hleziwe has previously offered professional services in business analysis, business plans development and market research for agribusiness –East Africa Market Development Associates (EAMDA). Other services have involved contract management; programmes support; communications; networking and partnerships as well as conference organisation at HelpAge International. She has served as a research assistant supporting the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA) in research and editorial work at the African Population and Health Research Centre (APHRC).

She possesses a Master’s degree in population studies from the University of Ghana’s Regional Institute for Population Studies and a Bachelor’s degree in sociology from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa.

Hleziwe aspires to work in humanitarian programmes in development and population change. Her community service work has involved empowering young people to set up small businesses using locally available resources for sustainability.
