The World Health Day is commemorated every year on 7 April. This day serves as an opportunity to focus worldwide attention on important aspects of global health. Since taking effect in 1950, the World Health Day has aimed to create awareness of a specific health theme to highlight a priority area of concern for the World Health Organization.
This year’s World Health Day honors the contribution of nurses and midwives, recognizing their vital role in keeping the world healthy as well as highlighting the challenges they encounter in the line of their duties. Particularly, nurses and other health workers this year are being celebrated and honored for their vital role in helping the world to fight and manage the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic.
To mark the day, AFIDEP ran an online campaign. See articles: Paul Kawale’s article, Dr Leyla Hussein Abdullahi’s article, Emma Heneine & Claire Jensen’s article and photos.
