Since December 2018, AFIDEP and the\u00a0African Academy for Sciences (AAS)<\/a>\u00a0have been implementing the\u00a0Evidence Leaders in Africa (ELA)<\/a>\u00a0Initiative which has sought to expand researchers\u2019 leadership in promoting and enabling the use of evidence in policy formulation and implementation by African governments. As ELA, which is funded by the Hewlett Foundation, comes to its completion this year, AFIDEP and AAS will be hosting a three-part webinar series to share key highlights and lessons of the initiative.<\/p>\n

The virtual webinar series themed,\u00a0Unlocking Researchers\u2019 Potential to Influence Development Policy, Programmes and Practice<\/em><\/strong>\u2019 will take place on various dates in the month of August.<\/p>\n

Taking place on 12 August 2021 at 4.00 \u2013 5.00pm (East Africa Time), this second webinar will share lessons from ELA\u2019s training and mentorship of researchers in African Universities on research translation and policy engagement.<\/p>\n

The third and last webinar is scheduled for 26 August 2021 at 4.00 \u2013 5.00pm (East Africa Time) and will provide a platform to share overarching lessons from the ELA initiative\u2019s efforts to empower and inspire African researchers to play a central role in promoting and facilitating evidence use in development efforts in Africa.<\/p>\n

REGISTER FOR WEBINAR TWO AND THREE<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n

The first webinar focused on experiences of researchers in institutionalising Evidence-Informed Decision-Making (EIDM) in government agencies in Africa. It was held on 5 August 2021. The session featured four African researchers who are beneficiaries of ELA seed grants that were competitively awarded to the scholars having demonstrated innovative approaches to promote the use of evidence in government agencies in their countries.<\/p>\n
