The Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate (MED) from the\u00a0Kenya State Department for Planning<\/a>, the\u00a0National Council for Population and Development (NCPD)<\/a>,\u00a0African Population and Health Research Centre (APHRC)<\/a>, and AFIDEP are jointly hosting an inception workshop for a new project aimed at making data systems work for evidence-informed policy-making (EIPM) in Kenya. The meeting convenes more than 20 officials from the national government and seven counties in Kenya collectively. The workshop will be held on 27-28 February 2020 in Machakos, Kenya.<\/p>\n

The project seeks to build and strengthen capacity, as well as use of integrated national and sub-national data systems to advance EIPM in efforts to harness the Demographic Dividend (DD) in Kenya. The project will be implemented by APHRC and AFIDEP in partnership with MED, NCPD and the Council of Governors (CoG) over the next two years.<\/p>\n

In Kenya, there exist various challenges in the effective use of data, data systems and performance management to improve the outcomes of development investments. These include inefficient data flow between county and national governments; restricted access to national sectoral restricted for users at the sub-national level; and lastly, these sectoral data systems are not fully integrated to provide a one-stop point for decision-makers.<\/p>\n
