From 6 to 18 November, Heads of State, ministers, and negotiators, along with climate change stakeholders are meeting in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt for the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27).<\/p>\n

COP27 is the largest annual gathering on climate action that seeks to deliver action on an array of issues critical to tackling the climate emergency including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, building resilience, and adapting to the inevitable impacts of climate change.<\/p>\n

The Building Capacity for integrated Family Planning, Reproductive Health and Population, Environment & Development (PED) Action (BUILD) Project<\/a> is at COP27 and will be hosting state and non-state actors at a side event themed \u00ab\u00a0Reinforcing synergies between climate change, health and development in Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs).\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

Climate change impacts include increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, with adverse effects on food and water security, human health, and livelihoods. Regions and people with considerable development constraints, such as poverty, poor governance, limited access to essential services and resources, conflict, and climate-sensitive livelihoods, have high vulnerability to climatic hazards.<\/p>\n

In the context of increasing vulnerabilities of populations in LMICs to climate change impacts, the event aims to provide a platform for discussing and illustrating the role of the interlinkages between climate change, health and development in building climate resilience across regions and communities in LMICs.<\/p>\n
