[Lilongwe<\/strong>] Today, March 13, 2018, President Peter Mutharika will launch the third Malawi Growth and Development Strategy (MGDS III). The MGDS III spells out the country’s medium-term national development blueprint formulated to contribute to the attainment of the country’s long-term development aspirations as enshrined in its Vision 2020.<\/p>\n

The theme of the MGDS III is \u00ab\u00a0Building a Productive, Competitive and Resilient Nation<\/strong><\/em>\u00ab\u00a0\u009d. According to the government, this strategy is built around this \u00ab\u00a0one theme that aims to improve productivity, turn the country into a competitive nation and develop resilience to shocks and hazards\u00a0\u00bb\u009d. The MGDS III is anchored on five key priority areas namely:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Agriculture, Water Development and Climate Change<\/li>\n
  2. Education and Skills Development<\/li>\n
  3. Energy, Industry and Tourism Development<\/li>\n
  4. Transport and ICT Infrastructure<\/li>\n
  5. Health and Population<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    These key priority areas were chosen on the basis of their strong linkages among each other as well as other sectors of the economy.<\/p>\n

    Our study, produced in collaboration with UNFPA Malawi, on Harnessing the Demographic Dividend to Accelerate Socio-economic Transformation and Economic Development in Malawi<\/em><\/a> was part of the main evidence base that informed the development of the MGDS III. In addition, we supported the development process of the MGDS III.<\/p>\n

    With the launch, we are looking forward to continued support and work with the government of Malawi in turning the commitments in this Strategy into actions that will improve the lives of Malawians.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
