AFIDEP is pleased to announce the rollout of a new project which seeks to enhance the role of Malawi Parliament in democratic governance and development. The project is funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs<\/a> through the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Malawi<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 3- year project will be anchored within the Malawi Parliamentary Service Commission to enable Parliament own, inform and guide its implementation and ensure sustainability of project interventions. In order to increase the autonomy and operational efficiency of the Malawi Parliament, the project will combine interventions that engage and shape the power relations, incentives, and influences within and outside Parliament, to address the Parliament’s current underperformance.<\/p>\n

The project seeks to inspire supportive political behaviour and reforms, and strengthen capacity that enables performance improvement and effective delivery of Parliamentary functions. Some more specific interventions include conducting trainings for Members of Parliament (MPs) and parliament staff; conducting public symposia to increase understanding of the role of parliament; supporting MPs to spearhead legal and institutional reforms needed to enable parliament to more effectively perform its functions; developing a manual on the oversight role of parliament for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), and working with parliament to strengthen the capacity of the secretariat and committees to perform their roles well.<\/p>\n

We have teamed up with diverse local and international experts in governance and evidence-informed transformational change, and purpose to work closely with all leaders across the political spectrum to galvanise sustainable action to improve the performance of the Malawi parliament.\u00a0This project is implemented in partnership with the Institute for Policy Research and Social Empowerment (IPRSE) based in Malawi.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
