In 2015, the UN general assembly adopted the resolution on the 2030 agenda on sustainable development. The agenda represents a historic and unprecedented commitment to a set of comprehensive development goals and targets, the SDGs. The agenda is now into its second year of implementation and it is increasingly establishing itself as the benchmark for progress in global and country developments. Countries have started unpacking how the agenda will be implemented and followed-up at the national level and in July 2017 a high-level political forum will be held at the UN Headquarters for global follow-up and review on a selected number of goals in a sample of countries.<\/p>\n
In this context, the Embassy of Sweden in Lusaka, through its team for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), supports regional programmes to strengthen the SRHR agenda in sub-Saharan Africa, with a particular focus on women and the young population.<\/p>\n
The SRHR team will be hosting a meeting from 28th February to 1st March 2017 in\u00a0Midrand, South Africa which seeks to deliberate ways in which to\u00a0move the SRHR agenda forward at a regional level in the SDG-era.\u00a0More specifically the meeting will:<\/p>\n
1. Increase partner knowledge about the basic principles and mechanisms of the SDG’s<\/p>\n
2. Take stock of partners’ knowledge about the SDG’s in relation to their ongoing work<\/p>\n
3. Elucidate partner views on how to move the regional SRHR agenda forward in relation to the SDG’s<\/p>\n
4. Explore the current and desired roles of different stakeholders in the SDG-process at the regional level<\/p>\n
