We worked with government officials in Malawi, Namibia, Zambia, Rwanda, Botswana, Zimbabwe and eSwatini to co-produce evidence on the prospects for harnessing the demographic dividend. This informed strategic changes in the way the countries highlighted investments in human capital development in their medium and long-term development strategies.<\/p>\n<p>There was a major shift whereby we increased focus on strengthening capacity for evidence use at sub-national levels of government. We worked in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in six counties that account for over half of maternal deaths in Kenya to develop a performance monitoring and accountability system.<\/p>\n<p>We further worked towards promoting institutionalisation and a culture of evidence-use in the public sector across Africa; and enhancement of the role of African parliaments in promoting democratic governance and accountability in service delivery and use of public resources.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a  data-e-Disable-Page-Transition=\"true\" class=\"download-link\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/afidep.org\/fr\/download\/annual-report-2017\/?tmstv=1776406403\" rel=\"nofollow\" id=\"download-link-10218\" data-redirect=\"false\" >\n\tAnnual Report 2017<\/a>\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 2017, AFIDEP contributed to promoting the value of evidence in policy formulation and development planning in Africa.
