AFIDEP is participating at the Maisha HIV/AIDS 2017 Conference hosted by the National Aids Control Council (NACC). The conference whose theme is Translating the Science to End New HIV Infections in Kenya: Perspectives, Practices and Lessons, is being held at the Hilton Hotel in Nairobi from 28th to 31st May 2017.
On 30th May 2017, Dr. Rose Oronje, the Director, Science Communication and Evidence Uptake at AFIDEP, shall be a panelist at the Session titled From Science to Action: Lessons and Opportunities. The objective of the session is to discuss challenges, opportunities and lessons learned in translating HIV research into local policy and practice.
Specifically, panelists at the session shall deliberate the opportunities that exist with regards to translation of local research into policy and practice, the existing opportunities for domestic financing of research in Kenya, and leveraging health informatics and innovation to drive actionable policy implementation in Kenya. The panelists shall also deliberate on translating national strategies into actionable local policies, with a focus on experiences from the development of the county AIDS strategic plans (CASPS).
Other panelists at the session are Dr. Rose Ngugi (Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis, KIPPRA), Dr. Jemima Onsare (National Research Fund), Dr. Moses Rugutt (National Comission for Science, Technology and Innovation, NACOSTI) and Dr. Andrew Mulwa (Chair, Health County Executive Committee, CEC).
