The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is marked every year on 11 February to recognize the critical role women and girls play in science and technology. The day also calls for the celebration of women and girls, who are leading innovation and call for actions to remove all barriers that hold them back. The celebration for this year was under the theme ‘Investment in Women and Girls in Science for Inclusive Green Growth.
AFIDEP will mark this day by holding a brown bag with Engineer Lucy Wanjiku – Founder, CEO and Engineering Director at Ecocycle Ltd, a green solutions engineering firm seeking to save the environment from pollution and distraction. In addition to talking about her great innovation of converting sewage water to clean water, Eng. Lucy will also highlight the opportunities and challenges that face women in Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
AFIDEP’s Research and Policy Associate, Claire Jensen also reflects on her journey as a young female researcher and the importance of early-career women contributing to knowledge through a blog.
