Our Impact
AFIDEP fulfils its regional mandate by carrying out cross-country analytical work and engaging with the African Union bodies, regional economic communities, and other bodies. One of the most impactful regional frameworks on the development and use of transformative technologies and tools for tackling health challenges in Africa; advancing domestic health financing project that enhanced domestic political will, resource investments, adaptation and implementation of evidence-informed policies, and effective utilisation of available health resources in Africa; HIV Surveillance that is developing future-oriented approaches for monitoring sustained HIV epidemic control in Malawi and other countries; Transforming Gendered Pathways to Health for TB, that's providing new evidence on the effectiveness of different gender-sensitive pathways and approaches to health for male TB patients in urban, HIV-prevalent settings in Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Nigeria; the Making the Case for Planetary Health in Sub-Saharan Africa - that provided technical assistance, including evidence generation and synthesis, to the Kenyan government, to develop the Kenya Climate Change and Health Strategy, a first in the region.
The five-year strategy will guide the Ministry of Health's priorities addressing the health impacts of climate change with data; Putting Countries Back on the Path to Achieving the SDGs, which provided Kenya, Ethiopia and Nigeria with data and evidence to prioritise policy and action for resilience sub-national and nation health systems to support Africa hasten its achievement of the SDGs and improve maternal and child health outcomes; Through the Exemplars in Global Health Program that documents drivers of progress in countries that are making progress in addressing various global health challenges, we generated and disseminated evidence on what worked to reduce adolescent childbearing in Malawi, Rwanda, Cameroon, and Nepal. We also documented drivers of progress in exceptional increases in the use of modern contraception in Malawi, Kenya, and Senegal, and Malawi Shire Valley Vector Control project which strengthened the capacity of researchers to engage with policy and enhanced uptake and use of their research, and Africa Integrity Indicators project, which collects governance indicators from all 54 African countries to monitor trends on governance issues and inform discourses on corrective measures among government and civil society actors, among others.

What we do
- Generate evidence and promote its use in key development areas including population dynamics, health, education, economic well-being and climate change adaptation.
- Conduct research to address data gaps and generate insights that inform policy and programme-relevant actions.
- Provide capacity development and technical assistance to governments and development actors including civil society and universities.
