African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP)’s Building Capacity for Integrated Family Planning and Reproductive Health and Population, Environment and Development Action (BUILD) project is holding a workshop-cum training sessions on the integration of population issues in development policies and strategies in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire from July 3 to 8, 2023.
The workshop aims to develop local capacities in the integration of population, health, environment and development (PHED) issues. It is expected that a pool of experts will emerge from the engagement to drive the PHED agenda not just in Côte d’Ivoire but across the West African region.
AFIDEP’s BUILD project team will be joined by informal partners as well as a consortium member from the Path Foundation Philippines. The Cote d’Ivoire mission will among others pay courtesy calls to state authorities, the UNFPA, the USAID Mission in Côte d’Ivoire, and key stakeholders from civil society groups to help position the BUILD project agenda within the wider spectrum of the Ivorian society.
The BUILD Project recognises that the underlying challenges that low- and middle-income countries face – lacklustre economic development, environmental degradation, loss of biodiversity, high levels of unmet need for family planning, and rapid population growth are interconnected. It works in four countries in Africa and Asia: Côte d’Ivoire (West Africa), Kenya (East Africa), Malawi (Southern Africa), and the Philippines (South East Asia).
