EAC Health Financing Hub Meeting on Health Financing and Pandemic Preparedness

Date: 14-15 April, 2025 | Venue: Nairobi Safari Club By Swiss-Belhotel

The EAC Health Financing Hub Meeting on Health Financing and Pandemic Preparedness will bring together key stakeholders from East African Community (EAC) member states for a high-level regional dialogue focused on strengthening domestic health financing systems and integrating pandemic preparedness and response (PPR) into national and regional priorities.

Hosted by the EAC Secretariat in partnership with the African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) and Globesolute, this landmark convening will officially launch the EAC Regional Health Financing Hub. The event will catalyze commitments to increase domestic resources for health, improve the efficiency of budget allocation, and build resilient health systems aligned with the Abuja Declaration and the African Leadership Meeting (ALM) Declaration on Health Financing.

Through collaborative discussions, country presentations, and the co-creation of a regional framework for financing surveillance and PPR, the meeting aims to:

  • Assess current financing gaps and opportunities across EAC countries.

  • Align national strategies with regional goals for Universal Health Coverage and pandemic readiness.

  • Identify innovative financing approaches for sustainable investments in surveillance and health security.

  • Promote regional cooperation, joint procurement, and knowledge sharing.

Expected outcomes include a draft regional framework on health financing for PPR and surveillance, reinforced regional advocacy messaging, and strengthened partnerships across governments, development partners, civil society, and private sector stakeholders.

This meeting represents a crucial step toward ensuring that EAC countries are not only better prepared for future health crises but also advancing sustainable, equitable health financing reforms for long-term health system resilience.
