Kenya: 1st Adolescent Health Symposium

The Kenya Ministry of Health, AFIDEP and other development partners invite you to the first National Adolescent Health Symposium to be held on 27th and 28th October 2015, at the Hilton Hotel, Nairobi.

The theme for the Symposium is “Evolving Challenges in Adolescent Health: Reflecting on Post-2015 Sustainable Development Agenda.”

5 thematic areas (sub-themes) will be discussed during the symposium:

  1. Current trends in managing Adolescent Mental Health (Open track)
  2. Emerging issues in Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health (ASRH)
    • Comprehensive sexuality education;
    • Innovative approaches in ASRH
    • Contraception; addressing barriers to contraceptive use among the adolescents
    • Abortion; legal issues in service provision, community contexts including stigma
    • Female Genital Mutilation; Reality checks on alternative rites of passage
  3. Re- igniting debates on alcohol and drug abuse among adolescents
    • Preventive mechanisms; what works?
    • Extent and trends
    • Emerging rehabilitation services
  4. HIV and AIDS response in adolescent health; reversing the trends
    • Drivers of stigma in the community and adolescents
    • Disclosure; dealing with challenges and consequences
    • School: treatment, care and support services for adolescents living with HIV in school settings
  5. Unearthing the reality of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among the adolescents; unearthing the reality
    • Policy framework
    • Prevalence of NCDs in Kenya, extent and trends of NCDs
    • Preventives measures
