Support for African Research and Data Use Capacity Building (AFRES-DATA)

Support for African research and data use capacity building (AFRES-DATA) project aims to strengthen capacities of African population scientists to generate cutting-edge research to address population and development issues in Africa. It focuses on capacity development of the next generation of researchers, creating platforms for data use, dissemination and networking, and increasing the capacity and functioning of the Union for African Population Studies (UAPS) to achieve its mission and objectives. 

  1. Develop the capacity of early career researchers (ECRs) to undertake and disseminate research in population and development issues

Targeted technical capacity building for young researchers to develop the next generation of African population scientists achieved through; 

  • Establishment of a sustainable UAPS ECR sustainable development programme for researchers working on population and development issues in Africa 
  • Stronger evidence to understand current and future population and development issues that affect the lives of Africans including issues related to family planning and SRHR 

AfRES data is led by African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) in partnership with the University of Kinshasa and the Union for African Population Studies (UAPS). It is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
