The recently released KDHS 2014 showed a worrying trend in adolescent sexual reproductive health indicators. This indicated that pregnancy amongst the youth and adolescents is currently on the increase in the country.
The Ministry of Health in collaboration with the stakeholders involved in providing services to the youth and adolescents is committed to reverse this trend. This includes review of the National Adolescents Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) Policy, which aims to enhance status of adolescents in Kenya.
To operationalize the policy, the Reproductive and Maternal Health Services Unit and partners will conduct an Adolescent Youth Sexual Reproductive Health (AYSRH) workshop to deliberate on how to improve the access to information and services, in relation to modern contraception methods, among the youth and adolescents.
The workshop will take the form of various panel discussions in the following thematic areas;
- Service Delivery
- School and Community Based Health programmes
- Demand Creation, Policy & Advocacy
- Research and M&E
AFIDEP’s Violet Murunga will present on evidence on effective interventions for improving sexual and reproductive health of adolescents. This is evidence from a review of 16 systematic reviews on a range of interventions.
