On 3 October 2020, the African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) through the Malawi Parliament Enhancement Project (MPEP) introduced the “parliamentary reporting” category at the prestigious MISA Malawi Annual Awards. AFIDEP sponsored two categories – print and digital platforms.
The awards seek to inspire journalists to commit to quality reporting on the work of parliament, improve the public’s understanding of the work of parliament, as well as to encourage greater media engagement with the parliament.
Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) seeks to promote and advocate for unhindered enjoyment of freedom of expression, access to information and free independent diverse media reporting. The media play an important role in governance and accountability and recognising the work journalists do is central in informing the public and shaping public discourse. In acknowledging their efforts, the awards will celebrate journalists who consistently report high-quality parliamentary stories to promote transparency and accountability in parliament’s work in carrying out public sector reforms.
