Mziwandile joins AFIDEP as Research and Policy Analyst on the Africa Integrity Indicators Project (AIIP).
He brings in over a decade’s experience working in various capacities of Zimbabwean civil society on democracy and governance with organisations such as the Zimbabwe Election Support Network, the Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development and the Youth Empowerment and Transformation Trust. In Cycle 10 of the Africa Integrity Indicators, he served as both Anglophone Africa Functional Reviewer on the Freedom of Expression thematic area as well as Country Reviewer for Zimbabwe. He has also carried out a number of consultancies on related governance issues for international development agencies in countries like Liberia, Kenya and South Africa.
He holds a PhD in Governance and Regional Integration from the Pan African University, a Master of Science degree in Development Studies from the National University of Science and Technology in Zimbabwe and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Library and Information Science. He is a 2010 alumnus of Freedom House’s African Institute for Governing with Integrity initiative after completing their Citizen Focused Public Policy Fellowship. His research interests revolve around the use of African decolonial frameworks to assess the contributions of African actors to international democratic norms, institutions and practices.
In his free time, Mziwandile enjoys cycling, reading, writing and occasional gym.
