The African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) will participate in the 2026 Economics Association of Malawi (ECAMA) Annual Economic Conference, taking place on 29–30 October 2026 at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi, Malawi, under the theme “From Policy to Practice: Making Reforms Work.”
The conference will bring together policymakers, economists, academics, private sector leaders, civil society organisations, young people and development partners to examine how Malawi can translate policy commitments into effective reforms that deliver tangible economic and development outcomes.
Discussions will focus on four key areas: prioritising reforms for Malawi’s economic recovery and transformation; strengthening public institutions for effective reform delivery; advancing social sector reforms for inclusive and sustainable development; and strengthening legal, financial and regulatory systems for economic transformation.
AFIDEP’s Executive Director, Dr Eliya Msiyaphazi Zulu, will contribute to discussions under the sub-theme “Prioritising Reforms for Malawi’s Economic Recovery and Transformation.” His presentation will explore the reforms needed to address Malawi’s prevailing economic challenges, accelerate structural transformation and support sustainable, long-term economic progress.
The conference provides an important platform for advancing evidence-informed dialogue on economic policy and strengthening the implementation, coordination and accountability needed to turn reform priorities into measurable results. Through its participation, AFIDEP will contribute evidence and policy perspectives to discussions on Malawi’s economic recovery, inclusive growth and long-term development aspirations under Malawi 2063.
