The World Population Day was marked worldwide on 11 July 2017. This year’s theme was “Family Planning: Empowering People, Developing Nations”.
In Kenya, stakeholders in population and development held an event in Nairobi to celebrate World Population Day. Kenya has had some remarkable success in its efforts to achieve wider coverage of family planning services across the country. However, some counties still lag behind. We speak with Dr. Joel Gondi – Head of the Reproductive and Maternal Health Services Unit (RHMSU) at the Ministry of Health, to find out what the government is doing to address these disparities.
In addition, the government launched the Kenya Demographic Dividend Roadmap at the same Nairobi event. We speak with Mr. Francis Kundu, Assistant Director of Population at the National Council for Population and Development to discuss what the Roadmap means for Kenya’s socio-economic transformation.
