The African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) in collaboration with the African Academy of Sciences (AAS) have been implementing a two-year project, Evidence Leaders in Africa (ELA) aimed at expanding leadership for the use of evidence in policy formulation and implementation by African governments. Part of the project is a seed grant initiative which supports activities of scientists that promote Evidence-Informed Decision-Making (EIDM) within governments. The ELA project led by Dr. Eucharia Nwaichi is one of these initiatives.
The ELA initiative awarded seed grant worth $20,0000 to four scientists to implement initiatives that institutionalise EIDM in government agencies in their countries. The grant was intended to support activities necessary to advance initiatives that nurture a culture of evidence use. Four see grants were awarded.
The meeting on 2nd is the final training that Dr. Eucharia Nwaichi will hold and will focus on making EIDM a culture. Participants will include researchers and policymakers from the Nigeria Natural Medicine Development agency which is the main government agency that she has been working with as well as the University of Port Harcourt researchers.
