In collaboration with the Kenya Editors’ Guild, AFIDEP through the Health Tech Platform Project will on 5 October 2021, host a two-hour breakfast meeting for editors based in Nairobi. The objective of the meeting is to create awareness on the critical role of the media in fostering public conversations on emerging health technologies and their potential in tackling health challenges in Africa. The forum aims to generate the support of editors on the need for increased media content on emerging health technologies and their role in Africa.
The meeting will introduce editors to emerging health technologies and then zero-in on the tools being developed on the continent for malaria control and/or elimination. Malaria remains a major health challenge for Africa, and current tools being used are failing to greatly reduce the malaria disease and death burden on the continent.
Experts from AFIDEP and partner institutions steering or involved in ongoing research on emerging health technologies with potential to change the disease trajectory on the continent will facilitate the meeting.
This breakfast meeting is the first in a series of quarterly breakfast meetings that will explore different emerging health technologies. Overall, the aim is to enhance the role of the media in increasing awareness about the emerging technologies, and importantly setting the agenda for increased policy priority and investments in research and innovation for better health by African governments and other development actors.
