Our People
Naa joins AFIDEP as a Senior Research and Policy Analyst, managing the ASHER project, leading work in Ghana on the TEAM-UP project and supporting gender integration on the Health Tech Platform and BUILD project.
She brings expertise in demography, gender research, health and nutrition. Her research interests are largely linked to understanding women’s status and its associations with health and well-being. She has a keen interest in how African women conceptualise and understand their status and the social, economic and cultural institutions that contribute to the continually lower status of women compared to men in Africa, and the rest of the world.
Prior to joining AFIDEP, Naa worked as a Lecturer before being promoted to Senior Lecturer at the Regional Institute for Population Studies, University of Ghana between 2014 and 2021. She also did her Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship with the same institution and has undertaken Visiting Research Fellowships at the Pennsylvania State University and the University of South Florida, USA. Naa holds a PhD in Population Studies, a Master of Philosophy in Population Studies, and a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Food Science from the University of Ghana.
Naa is a Queen Elizabeth Scholar (2019-2021), a University of Ghana and Carnegie Corporation of New York- BANGA-Africa Post-Doctoral Fellow (2019), a Carnegie Corporation of New York “Next Gen. Africa” Scholar (2011), and a Hewlett Foundation MPhil and PhD Fellow (2007-2012).
