The Parliament of Kenya and the African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) will host a policy dialogue for Members of Parliament (MPs) to discuss what Kenya needs to do to realise universal health coverage (UHC). UHC will ensure that every Kenyan has access to quality health care regardless of their ability to pay for healthcare services. The dialogue will be held on Wednesday 22nd June 2016 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Nairobi.
This dialogue aims to increase MPs’ understanding of the reforms, investments and strategies that Kenya needs to undertake in order to ensure every Kenyan has access quality healthcare. The dialogue will deliberate the role of MPs in these efforts and generate commitment to specific actions that MPs will undertake to contribute to the realisation of UHC in Kenya.
To ground the dialogue on evidence, AFIDEP is preparing a brief evidence synthesis on what works in countries’ efforts to realise UHC. This synthesis will be circulated to MPs ahead of the forum so as to enrich the discussions. AFIDEP has also, in consultation with parliament, constituted an expert panel that will present at the forum and guide deliberations.
