The African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP), in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Rwanda, shall be conducting a demographic dividend modelling workshop in Rwanda from 20th to 23rd March 2017.

The workshop, which shall be held at the Faraja Hotel in Musanze, Rwanda, seeks to review demographic and economic opportunities that exist for Rwanda. The team shall assess the existing challenges and assess their implications for harnessing the demographic dividend in in the country. Further, the modelling workshop seeks to assess the magnitude of the demographic dividend that Rwanda can harness under different policy scenarios using the DemDiv modelling tool. Ultimately, the findings from the workshop will be used as a basis for recommendations for policy options that Rwanda can pursue in order to maximise the demographic dividend the country can earn. The results shall also form part of the evidence base as Rwanda develops its next long-term development strategy, Vision 2050, and the Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy III.

The workshop is organised by the Government of Rwanda through the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MINECOFIN) and the National Institute of Statistics Rwanda (NISR). The UNFPA Rwanda Country Office and UNFPA East and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO) are supporting the workshop.
