Stakeholders working on the demographic dividend in Kenya will be convening at a multi-sectoral forum between 18th and 19th October 2016. The meeting, which will take place at the Windsor Hotel in Nairobi, seeks to strengthen efforts to realise the demographic dividend in Kenya through strategic investments in health, education, youth, governance and the economy.

The main objective of the forum is to accelerate support for harnessing a demographic dividend in Kenya. Specifically, stakeholders seek to rally national and county government support for Kenya’s on-going efforts to harness the demographic dividend. Further, they seek to agree on a roadmap for accelerating the implementation of sector-specific initiatives in order to achieve a demographic dividend in Kenya

At a broader perspective, the forum seeks to get buy-in from all relevant stakeholders ranging from government to development experts, for the demographic dividend agenda in Kenya. It also seeks to draft a demographic dividend roadmap that will guide the implementation of demographic dividend activities in Kenya. This roadmap will then be presented at the African Union (AU) Summit in 2017.

The event is hosted by the National Council for Population and Development (NCPD). The AFIDEP team includes, Executive Director, Dr. Eliya Zulu, Dr. Bernard Onyango (Knowledge Translation Scientist), and Ms. Eunice Mueni (Knowledge Translation Officer). Dr. Zulu will be moderating a session on the development of a demographic dividend roadmap for Kenya. In addition, Principal Secretaries from various line ministries will present on what their ministries are doing towards the achievement of a demographic dividend in Kenya. The Chief Guest will be the Cabinet Secretary for Devolution and Planning, Hon. Mwangi Kiunjuri.
