The Government of Kenya (GoK), through the Ministry of Health, outlined key commitments at the COP 26 Summit in the quest to strengthen its capacity to manage the health impacts of climate change. The commitments set up an arena for health system strengthening.
The Kenya Climate Change and Health Strategy (KCCHS) 2024-2029 strategy is an initiative of the Ministry of Health, Kenya, with technical support by the African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP), in partnership with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) to prioritise health within climate change action through the “Making the Case for Planetary Health in Sub-Saharan Africa Project” acknowledging the critical intersection of climate change and public health. The strategy aims to address the escalating health risks due to climate change, fortify healthcare systems against climate-induced challenges, and establish robust governance and leadership frameworks.
