Evidence for Development (Evi4Dev) Conference
The African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP), African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), and Science for Africa Foundation, in partnership with other institutions, hosted the first-ever Evidence for Development (Evi4Dev) Conference on May 6–8, 2025, in Nairobi, Kenya. The conference centred on research, data, and innovations in Africa’s development efforts to accelerate progress towards the realisation of the African Union’s Agenda 2063, and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
This story of change is part of a series that illustrates the early results of a 2-Week Virtual LEEPS Evidence-Informed and Equity in Policymaking Training Workshop delivered to members of the Africa Research Impact Network (ARIN) who attended the training. The stories of change illustrate how the training has improved the training of researchers in higher learning institutions, grant writing, advocacy strategies, research into policy and practice processes and project/ programme design and implementation. The Africa LEEPS Partnership is strengthening the capacity of individuals and institutions to generate, translate and use evidence, and integrate gender equity and inclusion, into policymaking. Through the AEEPA Regional Hub, led by AFIDEP, the partnership supports learning, capacity strengthening, policy dialogue and stronger systems for evidence use, with a focus on reproductive health and the climate-health nexus. Despite growing evidence that climate change threatens sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), most climate-health policies in Africa fail to explicitly integrate SRHR, limiting countries’ ability to build resilient and equitable health systems.
